I really enjoyed preaching at Guildford Baptist Church yesterday. In the morning I found a folder on my laptop named “Millmead” and upon opening it, discovered that I last preached there on 10th May 1998! It was a message titled “What will you be remembered for?” This involved several props including throwing paint on a full sized wedding dress and having 4 imagined obituaries which I took out of a wooden box and read at intervals. Anyway it was wonderful to be invited by one of the pastors, Karen Case-Green, who along with her husband Rob, are two friends we met in Reigate shortly before Julia and I were married. I remember their wedding fondly and it was brilliant to see them both and catch up yesterday. Once the service ended I met someone who told me their first ever Sunday at Reigate and Redhill Community Church had been when I preached “Missing in Action.” This was another dramatic late 90s effort, this one themed on the movie “Black Hawk Down” – to my amazement he said he responded to the altar call that day and has never been the same since. I also found that one of the elders there is friends with my Julia’s sister Sarah and her husband Max. I was so impressed by the newly renovated building. Yesterday was Millmead’s Alpha Sunday and the church is gearing up for a new course in September. Recent Alphas there have seen much fruit, especially amongst people relocating from Hong Kong. A great day for which I thank God.
