After my final Carol Service of 2017, I was delighted to find that 8 people who told us they are not part of any church, prayed the salvation response prayer at Hope Church, Sevenoaks this evening. And one more, also not church, didn’t pray the prayer, but said they’d like to know more. This was my first visit to the church led by Adam Northcroft, which meets in its own fantastic building. I committed a blunder at one point in the service by saying “and now let’s stand for Once in Royal David’s City and the first verse will be a solo” which was probably fair enough because my order of service said as much, but the only thing was that no-one else on stage had been expecting a solo. Anyway the lead singer looked completely unflustered and she belted out the solo with aplomb and we escaped with no-one else noticing! We even had a laugh about it afterwards when I discovered my error. So a huge thank you to all of you who’ve supported me through a marathon tour of the UK, which has taken me to Bradford, Exeter, Norwich, Chester and many places in between. It’s all been worth it, because hundreds, in fact thousands of people have heard the good news about why Jesus came into our world at Christmas!
