This morning I spoke at City Church, Sheffield. They bring their three congregations together once a month, meeting in a very large auditorium in what was once Sheffield’s Jewish Synagogue. The downstairs was full. The meeting reminded me of the very first services I attended before I was a Christian at Queens Road Church. People brought contributions during the worship from where they stood without coming to the microphone. The lady behind me started a song and everyone joined in! This “everyone has a” worship, which my old pastor Norman Moss called “Hatha” worship, based on the Authorized Version translation of 1 Corinthians 14:26, is what City Church have kept going with despite their large size. They also have children in throughout the service, which means that preachers like me need to engage the children all the way through, a great discipline for the lazy preacher! I very much enjoyed it, there were lots of guests there apparently, and I had a great catch up with pastor Dan Maton at the end talking about strategy going forward.
