King’s Community Church, Norwich

I was so impressed by Kings Community Church Norwich’s superb Carol Services yesterday. I spoke first at their new City West site which has only been going for 7 months. Led by Nathan Jarvis, a former President of UEA CU, who I worked with at the Norwich Cathedral Carol Service a few years ago, they pulled off a great event at an old Methodist Church building, where we made use of the church organ. Then in the evening, the City Centre venue had really pulled out all the stops. A great choir, huge band, great staging, great lighting, a full house, with loads of people there early, and I think it was a great example of making the most of Christmas. They seemed to have thought of everything, they even had presents hanging from the ceiling. Perhaps the show stopper was the band’s superb rendition of Boney M’s “Mary’s Boy Child . . . Hark now hear the angels sing” (a tune more usually heard these days as a football chant about the opposition fans running away!) A great night out in East Anglia! Very grateful to Toby and Jean Skipper for having me once again.
