News from Bath Abbey

Adrian Holloway on December 10, 2014 with 0 Comments

I play football with some of the other Dads from school on Tuesday nights, and last night was our annual Christmas dinner, with various awards. After much hilarity in the curry house on the Fulham Road, I gave some of the guys a lift home and got in about midnight to find an email confirming that 76 people who are not part of church, nor part of the Christian Union, prayed the response prayer at Bath Abbey on Monday night at the joint Bath University CU and Bath Spa CU Carol Service. It was a tremendous event, and the Abbey staff estimated that between 700 and 800 attended. So given the size of the CUs involved, that is probably 400 to 500 people who don’t normally go to church attending. So the fact that 76 people, (who told us they are unchurched!) responded to the gospel preach demonstrates once again that if people who don’t normally go to church, hear the gospel in the right environment, that many of them will respond. A huge well done to the Bath Bellas, and also the ChaOS choir who were both outstanding and the brass band made an enormous difference. Well done to Anita Borton, who did a great job organizing and also to Andrew Berry, the new UCCF staff worker, who made me feel very welcome. It was a privilege to speak at the event for the third time in four years. And as someone who spent the best years of my life studying Early Medieval History it was amazing to preach on the site of the coronation of King Edgar (973AD).
