Some highlights from Cardiff so far

I know of 13 people who have said yes to Christ, or “Count me in” who have also indicated that they are not part of any church nor part of the Christian Union, at the events I’ve spoken at as part of the Convinced? week so far here in Cardiff.
I’m pleased to say that numbers have grown each day at the Cardiff University lunch bars at Koko Gorilaz. We were full for both the first and second lunchbars today (about 140 people) where I spoke on “Was Jesus ‘just a good man’?” I’ve taken good questions both yesterday and today about “the suspension of natural laws” (i.e. required for a miracle to happen?) although I like what John Lennox says on this one where he talks about God creating the “natural laws” and then ‘feeding a new event in,’ which I think is a plausible way of looking at it. I had a question in the public Q and A today about Old Testament prophecy and whether the messianic prophecies Jesus fulfilled could have been written after his death. Also today I was asked about whether Jesus was arrogant, and also whether you can really argue that Jesus was the pinnacle of moral purity, seeing as he did not do more to denounce slavery. We then had a conversation about the Crusades, and the differences between Roman slavery and American Slavery.
The best moment of the week so far for me was yesterday when a Christian student told how they had invited a friend along to “Hasn’t Science Buried God?” She reported that her friend had not expected the case for theism from the origin of the universe, the fine-tuning of the universe and the origin of biological information to make sense, but that it did make sense and that she was not ready to come to terms with that yet. This is exactly the sort of process I went through, and that we must all go through on our way towards knowing and trusting God. The case is stronger than you expected, and you’ve got to deal with it. Also a great chat about the resurrection with a guy called “Freddy” yesterday, especially about whether monotheistic Jews in Jerusalem in the first century, were likely to start worshipping a man.
