Healings at Everyday Church this morning

This morning at Everyday Church, Wimbledon in our series on the hardest questions Jesus could be asked, I spoke on “Why Doesn’t God Heal Everyone?”. This is a particular challenge for Christians. If Jesus heals some people, why doesn’t everyone get healed? I tried my best to answer the question, and then afterwards I was asked to pray for the sick. We had 5 people who came to the microphone to tell us that they had been healed. But from my point of view the most notable was a woman who caught my arm in between the 9.30am and 11.30am services. The first thing she said to me was “I’m a complete sceptic.” Which I thought was commendable honesty, I think she was referring to healing in particular. She explained it was only her second ever Sunday at church and that she had been wearing wrist supports because she was unable to carry her child. Her wrists had been very weak for some time. She then asked her husband: “Shall I do it?” He said: “Go on!” I had no idea what they were planning. She then clasped my arm in a very tight grip. So I was impressed that even though she didn’t really believe, she had made a point of showing me that she was clearly healed. It was a stunning confirmation that you don’t have to have great faith to receive.
Meanwhile, one lady in the second service said she’d been in 10 years of pain since an operation, and that she was now pain free.
So, I want to thank David Featherstone, my friend of 29 years who did a great job of hosting the service and looking after me.
