Had a great launch of the Convinced? events week at Highfields Church last night. I really enjoyed meeting the students from so many different universities. And I loved the venue that I’ll be speaking in every night during the mission. It’s an old chapel which has been brilliantly converted into a modern venue by putting a floor in so that essentially everyone is now up in the roof of the church in the upstairs gallery. 100 years ago it might have seemed marvellous to have huge ceilings and of course an elevated pulpit where the preacher would be way above the eyeline of those sitting downstairs and slightly below those sitting upstairs. Well Highfields, which is a new church (started 1986) have just put everyone upstairs by putting in a new floor and it works to great effect.
