On Saturday night I spoke at a large gathering of churches and their friends including All Saints Lindfield, Cuckfield Baptist Church, Grace Church Haywards Heath, Christ Church Haywards Heath, Hurstpierpoint Evangelical Church, Bolney Village Chapel, Kents Road Church, Ruwach Christian Church, Northlands Church, Haywards Heath Baptist Church and The Kings Church Mid-Sussex at the Dolphin Leisure Centre. It was part of a national mission called “A Passion For Life,” themed around Easter. There was a very large stage and everyone sat in banked seating in the stands around 3 sides of the stage. The meeting began with an interview with singer-songwriter Steph McLeod, from Edinburgh, who then performed a superb acoustic guitar set of his songs. I then spoke from John chapter 4 about Jesus conversation with the woman at the well in Sychar. There was a tremendous response after Stef’s final song, which believe it or not was “when the Saints go marching in” – which is more normally heard at football matches these days, but it was a brilliant climax to the evening. The organizers were all very encouraged afterwards. I then stayed the night with my great friends Kieran and Sarah Dunne, who I’ve known for 25 years (Kieran spoke at our wedding in 1998). There was a feedback card response at A Passion For Life, and in total 52 people who said that they were not part of a church ticked either “count me in” which to the salvation response prayer I prayed or “I’d like to discover more”. So I think that is a very positive outcome.
