Last night I was thrilled to meet Jonathan McLatchie, who I have recently heard interviewed on the superb Apologetics 315 podcast. He had heard me preach earlier in the Claremont Tower lecture theatre, and we were sitting next to each other in McDonalds afterwards in Newcastle city centre. Jonathan McLatchie is doing some top-level post-grad research in evolutionary biology at Newcastle University. However, very unusually for someone studying in the field, he takes the view that some features in biology are best explained by design. Because my wife is a biologist, I have long been fascinated at how evangelical Christians make their way forward in terms of doing research and post-graduate study within the academic community in biology in particular. Especially when people like Jonathan find that their own research reveals data that does not fit well with classic Darwinian evolution. I was delighted to meet him, and to hear about his interactions with William Dembski and Stephen C Meyer, both father figures within the Intelligent Design movement. If this is of any interest to you, please pray for Jonathan is doing something unique, and virtually unheard of at a British university.
