There were around 600 people at City Church Canterbury yesterday where I spoke on “Can I trust the Bible?”. We did not invite any response to the message, but there were 7 people baptised, 2 in the 9.00am service and 5 in the 11.00am service. It was so impressive to see the venue full for both services, given the fact that I can remember preaching there about 3 years ago and being excited that their one morning service (at that time) was now full. Also during the same period the church has gone multi-site and they now have a congregation in Whitstable. I was thrilled to have my wife Julia and all 4 of our children with me and we had a brilliant time over lunch with our friends Tom, Josie, Daisy, Lily & Poppy Shaw in their new home. We even were allowed into Tom’s inner sanctum, his holy shed, where much praying, shouting, singing and reading of serious books takes place, (e.g. “The Emotionally Healthy Church” which Tom said was the “greatest book ever written” – this does not mean that Tom really thinks it is the greatest book ever written, it means that Tom is excited about this book). I had a great 2 hour conversation with my 13 year old daughter Esther all the way home. A great day!
