300 or so attend “Has Science Buried God?” at SUCU events week

CU President Tom Heasman told me that he estimates 300 people attended this lunchtime’s opening event of the events week. It’s always great when you “run out of chairs” but we certainly did and some people stood throughout my talk and the Q&A. So a massive “well done!” to the Southampton University Christian Union for getting so many of their friends along, and for a monumental flyering effort outside the Student Union in the 20 minutes before it started.

So we are up and running! We had about 30 people at the 8.00am prayer meeting this morning and there’s a team of 20 “CU guests” including my great friend Stephen Humphreys, who has taken the week off work as a recruitment consultant in London to tell students about Jesus in Southampton, where I first met him when he was in the CU three years ago. I encouraged him to come to Christ Church, London, which he did and it was the start of something great. He’s now a stalwart of Alpha and it’s great to be in partnership for the gospel here.
