Exciting story so far in Manchester

I was told just now that there are 20 people who have told us they are not part of church nor part of CU, who have left their name and number asking to meet up with someone to find out more about Christianity. And we’ve still got 4 events still to go here in Manchester! Yesterday I spoke at lunchtime on whether faith is “blind hope”? and then in the evening we had our highest attendance so far as I spoke from Luke 15. Tonight I’m speaking at a hotel in the city centre, and we’ll have a band called Tuba Slap, who I heard at the city-wide carol concert at the Royal Northern College of Music in December. They were superb and will be a sparkling addition to what’s being called “The Grand Finale”. There’s a smart dress code for tonight’s event. On a personal note yesterday I had a huge encouragement when one of the full-time team (we have around 20 people who are not students who have come specially for the mission, they are called CU Guests) came up to me and said she wanted to tell me how she’d become a Christian. She explained that she’d arrived at Southampton University as a fresher 5 years ago. She was invited to the first CU meeting of term in September on a Friday night. She was not a Christian. She asked: “What’s a Christian Union?” and next when she asked “what will happen at the meeting if I go?” the reply was “well, there’ll be a time of worship”. “I was horrified” she thought internally. She asked: “will we all have to bow down?” Anyway, she decided to turn up and I was speaking. I vaguely remember the talk, as she told me about one the illustrations which involved 80s music. Anyway, she explained that 7 days later, she became a Christian. “I just wanted to tell you what happened. Yours was the first Christian talk I’d ever heard. If you’d been boring, I might not be here today.” She’s now working at a church in Southampton. It was a great reminder that you never know who’s hearing the gospel for the first time. In that regard, the photo attached is from one of the lunch talks I did earlier this week, on Tuesday in fact.
