At the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford

It was a privilege to preach at the Mick Jagger Centre in Dartford this morning, home of Dartford Community Church. I was there for a week in September 1991 as part of an outreach team, and I met two members of that team again this morning. One who I thought was the same age as me called Graham, who is now a Primary School Head Teacher with 4 grown up children. I loved that team, and always remember talking to someone in the town centre who seemed to have no real interest in Jesus. It was a long conversation, and he was doing all the talking. As I was listening, I silently prayed: “Lord, tell me his name.” Seeing as he was a total stranger, it was an odd prayer and one I’d not prayed before. Then a name popped into my mind and I said: “Is your name . . .?” It was his name and he suddenly changed, and was wide open to hearing about Jesus. In fact he said: “I’m worried about what else God will tell you about me.” This was 27 years ago! Today, I had lunch with amongst others Ian and Debbie Travers and Quinton and Emma Handscombe, who are leading the church. Quinton and Emma are great friends from our time together at Christchurch London. It was brilliant to reconnect with them, and see them doing such great work in the Gravesend and Dartford area.
