Want to Shorten Your life?

[Jesus said:] “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27 We are going to have to accept sooner or later that worry is a choice. Let’s say, a scary thought comes into our mind, OK, we can’t do anything about that. What we can control is whether we choose to dwell on that thought. What we need is a replacement thought. If I tell you to stop thinking about a pink elephant, what image immediately fills your mind? A pink elephant, right? Similarly, being told to stop worrying about situation X won’t work. We need a replacement thought about what God has said about who we are, where we are going, who He is, and what He’s promised to do. Let’s think about it positively . . . Your most basic human desire is to be happy. This is a God given desire. After all Jesus said he’d come to give us “abundant life.” But one of the ways that the thief steals and destroys is through worry. If he can’t make the bad situation happen, then the Devil’s next best ploy is to make you worry that it will. In fact one of the Devil’s most joyful experiences must be to think about Christians worrying about things that will never ever happen. Deny him that joy today. Worrying won’t add a single hour to your life. Think instead about something positive in your life that so many people don’t have, and about who Jesus says He is.
