Exeter University Christian Union

On Friday I headed off to the Exeter University Christian Union weekend away at the Poplars, near Ledbury, which is near Malvern. I spoke five times over the first two days, and had a great time making lots of new friends and also meeting up with Josh Richards (pictured), from my home church, Everyday Church, London, who has just started reading Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Exeter. On Saturday night the executive committee, who I’d previously met up with in September at UCCF’s Forum event, dressed up in formal attire and served dinner to everyone else. And then an hour or so later, they changed into outdoor wet weather gear for a night wide game, that as far as I could tell involved lying in muddy ditches and fields getting quite cold for about an hour or so. It was a version of hide and seek and the exec were hiding in the dark around the site, and everyone else was trying to find them. All of this was team building ahead of the big annual Carol Service on Tuesday 5th December at St. James’ Park, home of Exeter City FC. This is a huge event where everyone stands on one of the few remaining large terraces in the Football League, and I’ll be speaking three times during the evening Carol Service, which is supported by the town as well as by students. Attendance is typically around 3,000. I’ll be going back to Exeter University in February 2018 speaking at a week of events also. On Sunday I was at my home church, Everyday Church, speaking at our Croydon venue. They meet in a sort of arts café, called TMRW. I met some great people there, and managed to sing part of Les Miserables during the sermon!
