Your Father

[Jesus said] “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:9 An excellent weapon in our war against worry is the fact that we are told to call God “Father”. Jesus was in the unique position of being able to compare life on earth to life in heaven. Having lived in both arenas, he was painfully aware of how very sinful we are. So when instructing us to pray, we’d expect Jesus to teach us, “This, then, is how you should pray: “Most holy, awesome Lord of Lords, and King of Kings, we are like worms before you” etc. Instead it is amazing that he taught us to pray: “Our Father.” So whatever you’ve done, no matter how bad you may think you are, he’s still your Father. My earthly Father will always accept me, no matter what I’ve done. That’s because I am his son. It’s the same with God. You don’t have to earn his approval. Whatever it is you’re worried about, turn to God now, and begin by thanking him that no matter how awful the situation is, God is your loving heavenly Father. That’s a great start!
